Who is Jack Files?

Jack Files VK4JF passed his Amateur Operator Certificate of Proficiency at Brisbane in the the year 1933.

His On-Air activities were mainly DXing, mostly by CW. Jack also competed in Field Days and Contests.

When it came to the WIA Queensland Division, Jack was a dedicated Council Member. In the 1930's he wrote the WIA notes for "Teleradio". Apart from that his dedication to Amateur Radio saw him as a Morse Code instructor for other aspiring students of the hobby.

His WIA work also saw him undertake the the role of VK4 Inwards QSL Officer in 1949. A role he expanded to control both Inwards and Outwards VK4 QSL Bureaus for well over a decade. If that was not enough for one man, Jack found time to undertake the role of Institute Librarian.

In his professional life, Jack Files was an Accountant, and in whatever spare time he had, he enjoyed the relaxing activity of gardening.

In honour of Jack's 35 years of unselfish dedication to the WIAQ's affairs, the Division organized the Annually held VK4 Jack Files Memorial Contest.
